Best General Purpose Fighter in Aces High

Specialty fighters are good for morale, but multi-role fighters are what win wars.  Whats your opinion of the best 'general purpose' fighter in Aces High?  Take into consideration : range, turning ability, maximum speed, climb rate, bomb load, ammo load, and durability.

My vote for the best general purpose fighter in Aces High goes to the P51D.  It is fast, turns ok, carries a large amount of ordinance, has 6 50 caliber machine guns, climbs well, has good visibility, excellent range, and is able to withstand quite a bit of damage.

P47D-30 or P38L...

Tons of ordinance and both are far more durable than the P51D.

They can also turn with a notch or two of flaps.

8x.50s or 4x.50s+1 20mm.

Plus P38 has two engines- lose one and you can still make it home.

In AH the F4U-1c and F4U-4 both have some significant advantages in your specified list of characterstics over the P-51D.  I would place the F4U-4 at the top in the multi-role category.

F6F.  If you can't turnfight against your opponent,  you can e-fight against them.  You can jabo with rockets and two thousand pounders,  de-ack with six fifty's, strap on a tank and fly forever or  use the tank to arrive at the furball with dogfight fuel.  It's available at carriers,  has an ENY of 22, which makes it a decent perk gatherer, it is more durable than the 51 and finally it has good all around visibility.  I'm starting to really like the kitty.

In terms of AH, I would have to agree with Hooligan.  The F4U-4 can do it all, and from a carrier as well.

I would have to say that the best all-purpose fighters (excluding perks) are the P51D Mustand, F4U-1D Corsair and the P47D30 Thunderbolt.

These guys have long range, massive loadouts, good speed, and can do almost anything but low-speed turn fights.

Hehe and of course, therein lies the rub. The way the game plays out now, 70-80% of the action is in low alt low speed furblass ~ which is why there are so many Spit IX's, N1K's and 109's around all the time.

American iron has always specialized in being multirole ;)

P-38 certainly has its advantages, especially since economics don't come into play for this game. In real life, the P-38 was too expensive for its performance. The P-51 was cheaper, faster, and longer ranged.

P-47s, F4Us, and F6Fs are all about the same to me. They trade some top end speed for durability compared to the P-51. Of course the F6F and F4U are carrier capable too.

Depending on your exact needs, any of those aircraft can get the job done almost as well as the others. I love and fly all of them.

B26 :D  It can turn, climb, dive, and it's rather durable.

f4u-4 (or 1d if you want non-perked)
Can do anything, from anywhere, including carriers.

p38 is excellent except for the lack of carrier ability...
